Gypsy Market

The lovely Ninas (there are two of them) took us to a gypsy market outside of belgrade. It was so much fun. They basically all live in this neighborhood and collect what amounts to trash all week and sell it on the street on Sundays. There were some really great things. I bought a Serbian comic book from the Eighties, a weird Russian notebook and some material for my project here.
Belgrade from the Sky

Some of us were interviewed by Milica Lapcevic, a radio reporter from Studio B, the local radio station. The next day she invited us up to the studio to see the view. Its on the top of the tallest building in Belgrade. The view was amazing, and the chat we had was really great. Here are a couple shots I put together

Late at the Salsa Bar

Here are a few of us cooling off after dancing. Itamar somehow got a sales pitch from this crazy German woman who was part of a Pyramid Scheme selling skin products. We had to listen to 45 minutes of her pitch, translated by Jacob. it was quite weird. But Itamar and Claire got free back rubs out of it, which you can see...
PS - I shaved the beard today.

Presentations
Artists

Every night after presentations we all meet in a traditional Serbian restaurant for a meal before going out. Represented in these photos are... Italy, Isreal, Serbia, Austria, Singapore, Portugal, and Spain. The whole point of this residency is mainly to meet these people and party and have fun, more than to make art and exhibit, though we'll all do that too...
BEGRADE!!!!

We made it to Belgrade which is an AMAZING city. Its really huge, dirty, and very alive. We met the 80 or so artists that we're working with. In the bottom right of this photo is Bijana who organizes this project. She's an amazing woman who has brought artists from all over the world together in Serbia for 7 years straight.

Note on Art

Almost all of my favorite work from both Documenta and the Venice Biennale were video pieces, and were therefore almost impossible to get good images of. Of note at the Biennale were Sofie Calle's "take care of yourself" in the French Pavilion and this video by AES+F group (in the Russian Pavilion). this is a panoramic from a video installation they had that was BY FAR my favorite piece I've seen.
AES+F is *$%#@ amzing - check out their website...

I've made it to Belgrade
Hello people who happen to be checking my blog. I didn't use the internet in Venice as it was a whirlwind and we just didn't have time. It was amazing and I'll post images soon. Finding a place where I can use my computer to post, and not some crappy internet-cafe machine will be interesting in Belgrade. We arrived last night and the city is pretty amazing. its very lively! but, wifi seems to be an issue and we don't have internet in our rooms at the moment. I'll try to update asap! cheers!
